1. Introduction

This ESD Compact Wired Keypad is a professional input device designed for Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Protected Areas. Its static dissipative construction (10-10 Ω) helps protect sensitive electronic components from damage caused by electrostatic discharge from the user. The compact size, full numeric pad, and 24 dedicated function keys make it ideal for data-intensive and control applications in manufacturing, laboratories, and cleanrooms.

2. Critical ESD Safety Warning

This is a static dissipative peripheral. It is NOT a primary grounding device.

• Personal Grounding is REQUIRED: The operator MUST wear a properly functioning grounded wrist strap connected to the common point ground of the ESD workstation.

• Worksurface Requirement: The keypad MUST be placed and used on a grounded ESD worksurface (mat).

• The Protection Chain: Grounded User → ESD Keypad → Grounded ESD Mat → Earth. All links are essential for protection.

4. Installation & Setup

1. Prepare Your EPA: Ensure your ESD mat is properly grounded and you are wearing your grounded wrist strap.

2. Connect: Plug the keypad's USB connector into an available USB port on your computer or workstation control panel.

3. Driver Installation: Most operating systems will automatically recognize the keypad as a standard keyboard. No additional drivers are needed.

4. Positioning: Place the keypad on your grounded ESD mat. Use the adjustable kickstand on the bottom to achieve a comfortable typing angle.

5. Operation

• Standard Keys: Use the alphanumeric keys, numeric keypad, and arrow keys as you would on a standard keyboard.

• Special Navigation Cluster: The Home, End, PgUp, PgDn keys provide convenient cursor and document control.

• Dual Function Key Rows (F1-F12): This keypad features two complete rows of F1-F12 keys (24 keys total).

  • The top row typically functions as standard F-keys (F1-F12).

  • For OEM Customers: The second row (or all 24 keys) can be pre-programmed with custom macros, shortcuts, or specific commands for your industrial software or machinery. Please refer to the custom programming guide provided with your OEM order.

6. Care & Maintenance

• Cleaning: Disconnect the USB cable. Wipe the keypad surface with a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with an ESD-safe cleaner or 70% isopropyl alcohol. Do not spray liquid directly onto the keypad.

• Do Not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

• Storage: When not in use, store the keypad in a dry environment, ideally on or inside a grounded ESD mat or bag.
