Disposable ESD Heel Straps - User Manual
1. Product Introduction & Purpose
These Disposable ESD Heel Straps (also called Heel Grounders) are single-use personnel grounding devices. They are designed to be worn over standard footwear to safely dissipate static electricity from the human body when used in conjunction with ESD flooring (conductive or static-dissipative). They provide a simple, hygienic, and effective method for achieving personnel grounding in Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Protected Areas (EPAs).
2. Application & Intended Environment
Primary Use: Temporary personnel grounding for visitors, contractors, or personnel who do not have dedicated ESD footwear.
Key Environments:
Electronics Manufacturing & Assembly Cleanrooms
Server Rooms and Data Centers
Laboratories handling static-sensitive devices
Medical Device Manufacturing Areas
Any area with ESD flooring requiring controlled personnel access.
3. Step-by-Step Usage Instructions
Step 1: Preparation
Ensure you are entering a validated EPA with proper ESD flooring.
Remove the Heel Strap from its individual plastic packaging.
Step 2: Application to Footwear
Identify the adhesive section (the white/solid color area on the strap).
Remove the protective liner (if present) to expose the adhesive.
Place the strap on the back (heel) of your shoe. The adhesive section should be centered on the back of the heel.
Press firmly around the adhesive area to ensure good contact with the shoe material. The long ends with yellow/black stripes will drape down to touch the floor.
Step 3: Grounding Verification
Once applied to both heels, walk onto the ESD flooring.
The conductive/dissipative strands in the straps must maintain continuous contact with the floor and your shoe to create a path to ground.
For critical applications, verify your personal grounding using a Continuous Personnel Grounding Monitor (if available).
4. Important Warnings & Limitations
ESD Flooring Required: This product ONLY works when used on qualified ESD flooring (conductive or dissipative). It will NOT provide grounding on regular carpet, tile, or wood floors.
Single-Use & Hygiene: This product is designed for single use. Discard after one wearing session to maintain hygiene and adhesive performance.
Skin Contact: The adhesive is designed for shoe material, not direct skin contact. Avoid applying directly to skin.
Inspection: Do not use if the packaging is damaged or the adhesive area is contaminated.
NOT a Substitute: This is not a substitute for permanent ESD footwear or wrist straps at a workstation. It is for personnel mobility grounding within an EPA.
5. Storage & Shelf Life
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
The product has a typical shelf life of 2-3 years. Do not use past the expiration date indicated on the packaging (e.g., 2015/2/15 in example).
6. Compliance Statement
This disposable heel strap is part of a complete ESD control system. Its effectiveness is contingent upon proper use on qualified ESD flooring. It assists in meeting the personnel grounding requirements of common ESD control standards.
